B4x Spark Plug Information

Comprehensive spark plug specifications and recommendations for B4x Gen 1, B4xTU, and B48E engines.

B4x Owners Attention! The OEM Coils output some of the highest amounts of energy observed in the industry. There is no need to gap the plugs at all unless you are running extremely high power levels and your tuner has advised you to gap the plug.

Pre-Ignition / Detonation Protection Explained

Standard

What was considered standard from the OEM. However, this is still an improvement over the N2x NGK 97506 Plug Design.

Improved

The metal shell has been extended to cover/shield more of the electrode (positive firing end) ceramic, but does not shield/protect all of the ceramic.

Enhanced

The metal shell extension completely covers/shields the electrode's ceramic and provides the most pre-ignition or detonation protection.

Why Projection Type Matters

Projection is how far from the body/shell of the plug the ground strap and electrode extend. The longer or further away from the plug body they are, the better spark efficiency — but the greater risk of plug failure or potential engine damage from a hot ground strap causing pre-ignition.

How Much Boost Can These Plugs Handle?

Plug life can vary depending on the application. Things that can reduce plug life:

  • •
Gapping Plugs: Can reduce life as precious metals on the electrode and ground strap wear out quicker.
  • •
Incorrect Heat Range: Running high boost pressures or high octane fuels can lead to premature failure or reduced service life.
  • •
Detonation / Pre-Ignition: Can cause the ceramic to prematurely crack and become dislodged, usually resulting in engine failure/piston damage.
